Ndizeye assumed the title, King Ntare V, and appointed Michel Micombero to the post of Prime Minister. Less than five months later Micombero led a coup which ousted the 19-year-old King, abolished the Burundi's monarchy and declared Burundi a Republic and established a one-party military regime.
